In digital marketing & SEO, above the fold means: In or into the part of a web page or email that people can see without scrolling; the phrase comes from the top half of a folded newspaper.

How it is used

Used in design and CRO discussions: put the key message above the fold. Because screen sizes vary, the fold is not a fixed line. The opposite is 'below the fold'.
