Urgency

Meaning in sales & retail, with examples

/ˈɜːrdʒənsi/nounCommon term

In sales & retail, urgency means: In sales, a real reason for the customer to decide now rather than later, such as a price rise, a deadline or a problem that is getting worse.

In Turkish: aciliyet, ivedilik

How it is used

Sellers talk about creating a sense of urgency. Honest urgency comes from the customer's own situation or from real offers with an end date. Fake urgency, such as invented deadlines, can damage trust and in some cases break consumer protection rules.

Example sentences

  1. There's no urgency on their side: their current contract runs until next year.

  2. The price increase in January created real urgency, and three clients signed in December.
