In tourism & hospitality, maintenance means: The work of keeping a hotel's building and equipment in good condition, and the department that repairs things such as air conditioning, lights and plumbing.

How it is used

When a guest reports a fault, staff say "I'll send someone from maintenance." Large hotels may call the department engineering. Preventive maintenance is planned work, and each job is recorded as a maintenance request or work order.
