In real estate, maintenance means: The regular work needed to keep a building and its systems in good condition, such as fixing leaks, servicing the boiler and repainting.

How it is used

Property managers handle maintenance requests from tenants and plan preventive maintenance. Leases say who is responsible for which maintenance, and owners include maintenance costs when they work out the real return on a rental.
