In military & defence, maintenance means: The regular work of checking, servicing and repairing vehicles, aircraft, ships and equipment so that they stay safe and ready to use.

How it is used

Types include preventive (scheduled) and corrective maintenance; levels range from simple checks by users to major overhauls at a depot. Equipment that cannot be used is 'down for maintenance'.
