Customer interview

Meaning in product management, with examples

nounCommon term

In product management, customer interview means: A one-to-one conversation with a current or potential customer to understand their needs, habits and problems, usually as part of product discovery.

In Turkish: müşteri görüşmesi, kullanıcı görüşmesi

How it is used

PMs schedule, run and synthesize customer interviews. Good interviewers ask about past behavior (tell me about the last time you…) rather than asking people to predict the future or judge an idea, because people are polite and bad at predicting.

Example sentences

  1. I have three customer interviews this week to understand why teams cancel.

  2. In the customer interviews, nobody mentioned price; they all talked about setup time.
