Batch

Meaning in food science & technology, with examples

/bætʃ/nounCore term

In food science & technology, batch means: A quantity of product made at one time, under the same conditions and from the same materials, so that it can be identified and traced as one unit.

In Turkish: parti, şarj, lot

How it is used

Used every day on the production floor and in the lab. People make, test, release, hold or reject a batch. In batch processing a fixed amount is processed at a time, unlike continuous processing. 'Lot' often means the same thing, and the batch or lot code on the pack makes recalls possible.
