GMV
Meaning in e-commerce, with examples
In e-commerce, GMV means: Short for gross merchandise value: the total value of goods sold through a store or marketplace in a period, before fees, discounts and returns are taken off.
In Turkish: brüt satış hacmi, brüt ürün hacmi, GMV
How it is used
Used in marketplace reports, investor news and seller dashboards to describe the size of a business. A marketplace's own revenue, mostly commission, is much smaller than its GMV, and companies define GMV slightly differently.
Example sentences
The marketplace reported that GMV grew by 35% last year.
Our GMV looks big, but after returns and commission the real revenue is much lower.
