Plug-in hybrid
Meaning in automotive, with examples
In automotive, plug-in hybrid means: A hybrid with a larger battery that can be charged from a socket or charging station, so it can drive a useful distance, often 40 to 100 km, on electric power alone.
In Turkish: şarj edilebilir hibrit, plug-in hibrit, PHEV
How it is used
Shortened to PHEV. Its official fuel consumption is very low, but real use depends on how often the driver charges. People talk about electric range, EV mode and charge-sustaining mode.
Example sentences
The plug-in hybrid has an electric range of 75 km, enough for most daily commutes.
If you never charge a plug-in hybrid, it uses more fuel than a normal hybrid because of the extra weight.
