Regenerative braking
Meaning in automotive, with examples
In automotive, regenerative braking means: A way of slowing an electric or hybrid vehicle in which the electric motor works as a generator, turning the car's movement back into electricity that is stored in the battery.
In Turkish: rejeneratif frenleme, enerji geri kazanımlı frenleme
How it is used
Often called regen. Drivers choose regen levels, and strong regen allows one-pedal driving. Because regen does much of the slowing, EV brake pads last longer, but the discs can corrode from lack of use.
Example sentences
Regenerative braking recovered about 15 percent of the energy on the city test route.
When the battery is full, regenerative braking is limited, so the car feels different on long descents.
