Yarn-dyed
Meaning in fashion & textiles, with examples
In fashion & textiles, yarn-dyed means: Describing fabric woven or knitted from yarns that were dyed before fabric production, which is how most woven stripes and checks are made.
In Turkish: iplik boyalı
How it is used
Yarn-dyed fabrics include shirting stripes, gingham, tartan, chambray and Breton stripes in knits. They usually cost more and have longer lead times than piece-dyed or printed fabrics, but the colour goes all the way through the yarn.
Example sentences
These stripes are yarn-dyed, not printed, so they look sharp on both sides.
Yarn-dyed checks need extra fabric because the pattern must match at the seams.
