Strike-off

Meaning in fashion & textiles, with examples

/ˈstraɪk ɒf/nounCommon term

In fashion & textiles, strike-off means: A short test print of a design on the actual production fabric, sent to the buyer to approve colours, scale and quality before bulk printing.

In Turkish: baskı onay numunesi, baskı denemesi, strike-off

How it is used

Strike-offs are to prints what lab dips are to solid colours. Buyers check colour matching, the size of the motifs, sharpness and the repeat. Each colourway usually needs its own strike-off, and comments are written directly on the sample.

Example sentences

  1. The strike-off is approved, but the pink should be a little softer in bulk.

  2. We're still waiting for strike-offs for the two new colourways.
