Payload

Meaning in robotics & automation, with examples

/ˈpeɪloʊd/nounCore term

In robotics & automation, payload means: The maximum weight a robot can carry at its flange while keeping its rated speed and accuracy. It includes the gripper or tool as well as the part.

In Turkish: taşıma kapasitesi, yük kapasitesi, faydalı yük

How it is used

One of the first numbers checked when choosing a robot: a 10 kg payload robot. Engineers also look at the load diagram, because the allowed weight drops as the center of gravity moves away from the flange. Wrong payload data in the controller causes poor motion and false collision alarms.

Example sentences

  1. With the new gripper we're at 9 kg, so a 10 kg payload is too tight.

  2. Did you enter the payload data for the new tool in the controller?

Common collocations

  • rated payload
  • payload capacity
  • payload data
  • exceed the payload
  • load diagram
