Zoning
Meaning in interior design, with examples
In interior design, zoning means: Dividing a space into areas for different activities, such as cooking, eating, relaxing or working, using furniture, rugs, lighting or changes in floor and ceiling.
In Turkish: bölgeleme, alan ayrımı, fonksiyonel bölgeleme
How it is used
Essential in open-plan homes and offices. You zone a space or create zones, and lighting can be zoned too, so that each area is controlled separately. In planning law, zoning means something different: official rules about how land may be used.
Example sentences
We used a large rug and a low shelf for zoning the living area from the dining area.
Good zoning means the home office corner doesn't feel like part of the kitchen.
