In business english, status update means: A short report, often by email or in a meeting, that tells others how a project or task is progressing and what has changed.

How it is used

Managers ask for status updates regularly: 'Can you send me a quick status update?', 'weekly status update'. A good one says what is done, what is next and any problems, often with green, amber and red labels.
