Solenoid valve

Meaning in robotics & automation, with examples

/ˈsoʊlənɔɪd vælv/nounCommon term

In robotics & automation, solenoid valve means: A valve that is opened or switched by an electric coil to control the flow of air or liquid. In pneumatics it sends air to one side of a cylinder or the other.

In Turkish: selenoid valf, solenoid valf, elektrovalf, bobinli valf

How it is used

Valves are described by ports and positions: a 5/2 valve has five ports and two positions and may have spring return or two coils. Valves are often mounted on a valve terminal (valve island). Common faults are a burnt coil or a stuck spool.

Example sentences

  1. The solenoid valve gets the signal, but the cylinder doesn't move; the coil may be burnt.

  2. We use a 5/2 solenoid valve with spring return for the clamp.
