In mobile app development, splash screen means: The first screen people see while an app starts, usually showing the logo on a plain background until the main content is ready.

How it is used

Apple calls it the launch screen and wants it to look like the app's first screen rather than an advert. Android 12 introduced the SplashScreen API, which gives every app a standard splash with its icon. Teams keep it short, because users feel a long splash as slowness.
