In mobile app development, push notification means: A short message sent from a server to a user's device that appears on the screen even when the app is not open, for example about a new message or a delivery.

How it is used

Used by developers, product managers and marketers. You send, receive, schedule and tap on push notifications; people often shorten it to 'push' (send a push). On iOS they go through Apple's APNs, and on Android usually through Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM).
