In fashion & textiles, grading means: The process of making a pattern in all the other sizes from the base size, by adding or removing set amounts at specific points.

How it is used

Grading follows grade rules, for example 4 cm on the chest between sizes, and is usually done in CAD. A grader or pattern maker grades the pattern after the fit is approved. Bad grading means some sizes fit well and others do not.
