In business english, trend means: The general direction in which something is changing or developing over time, such as sales, prices or customer behaviour.

How it is used

Key in presentations about numbers: an upward or downward trend, a long-term trend, 'the trend continues'. Describing trends uses verbs such as rise, fall, peak, level off and fluctuate.
