Dead code
Meaning in software engineering, with examples
In software engineering, dead code means: Code that is never run or whose result is never used, for example an old function nobody calls. It only makes the codebase harder to read.
In Turkish: ölü kod, kullanılmayan kod
How it is used
Reviewers ask authors to remove dead code instead of commenting it out, since version control keeps the history anyway. Many IDEs and linters can detect unused functions and variables.
Example sentences
Half of this file is dead code from the old checkout, so let's delete it.
Don't comment out dead code; Git already remembers it.
Common collocations
