Speed override

Meaning in robotics & automation, with examples

/ˈspiːd ˌoʊvərraɪd/nounCommon term

In robotics & automation, speed override means: A percentage setting on a robot or CNC controller that scales all programmed speeds, for example running a new program at 10% before going up to 100%.

In Turkish: hız oranı, hız override, hız yüzdesi

How it is used

Used every day during testing and start-up. You lower, raise or set the override, often just called 'the override': 'run it at 25% override'. Testing a new program at low override gives you time to stop the robot if something is wrong.

Example sentences

  1. Run the new program at 10% speed override until we're sure there are no collisions.

  2. Someone left the speed override at 50%, so the cycle time looked terrible.

Common collocations

  • set the override
  • run at low override
  • 100% override
  • feed override
