Repeatability

Meaning in robotics & automation, with examples

/rɪˌpiːtəˈbɪləti/nounCommon term

In robotics & automation, repeatability means: How closely a robot returns to the same taught point again and again. Data sheets give it as a small value, for example ±0.03 mm.

In Turkish: tekrarlanabilirlik, tekrar hassasiyeti, tekrarlama hassasiyeti

How it is used

A key number when choosing robots for precise tasks like assembly or dispensing. Robots are usually much better in repeatability than in absolute accuracy, so points taught on the real part are more reliable than points calculated only in CAD.

Example sentences

  1. The robot's repeatability is ±0.02 mm, which is fine for inserting the pins.

  2. Poor repeatability after the crash told us that something in the gearbox was damaged.
