Static route
Meaning in networking & telecommunications, with examples
In networking & telecommunications, static route means: A route that an engineer enters into a router by hand, telling it exactly where to send traffic for a particular network, instead of letting a routing protocol learn it.
In Turkish: statik rota, statik yönlendirme
How it is used
Engineers add, remove and redistribute static routes. They are simple and predictable, so small sites often use only a static default route pointing to the ISP. Their weakness is that they don't adapt automatically when a link fails.
Example sentences
Add a static route to 10.50.0.0/16 via the VPN firewall.
Someone left an old static route in place, so traffic kept going to the closed office.
