Happy path

Meaning in UX/UI design, with examples

nounCommon term

In UX/UI design, happy path means: The ideal route through a flow where everything goes as expected: the user enters valid data, nothing fails and the task is completed without problems.

In Turkish: ideal senaryo, sorunsuz akış, mutlu yol

How it is used

Designers often design the happy path first, then cover error states and edge cases. Developers and testers use the term too. Saying that a design 'only covers the happy path' is a common criticism in reviews.

Example sentences

  1. The prototype shows the happy path, but the screens for a declined card are still missing.

  2. Let's walk through the happy path first, then talk about what can go wrong.
