Tune

Meaning in robotics & automation, with examples

/tuːn/verbCommon term

In robotics & automation, tune means: To adjust the parameters of a controller, such as PID gains or servo settings, so that the system responds quickly and smoothly without oscillating.

In Turkish: ayarlamak, parametre ayarı yapmak, optimize etmek

How it is used

Used in commissioning and optimization. You tune a loop, a drive or an axis, and the result is well tuned or poorly tuned. Many drives have auto-tuning; engineers then fine-tune by hand while watching a trend or a scope trace.

Example sentences

  1. We need to tune the temperature loop again; it overshoots by 8 degrees.

  2. After auto-tuning, I fine-tuned the servo gains to stop the vibration at the end of the move.
