ISWC

Meaning in music, with examples

abbreviationAdvanced term

In music, ISWC means: Short for International Standard Musical Work Code: an identifier for a musical work, such as a composition, rather than a specific recorded performance.

In Turkish: uluslararası standart müzik eseri kodu, ISWC

How it is used

Used in publishing catalogues and work registration. It helps identify the composition across recordings; it is not the same identifier as an ISRC.

Example sentences

  1. The publisher added the ISWC to the work record after confirming the composition details.

The identifier is attached to the composition entry rather than an audio file.

  2. These cover recordings refer to the same ISWC because they perform the same musical work.

Different performances can point to one underlying composition in the catalogue.
