In music, cover means: A new performance or recording of a song that was first released by another artist, often in a different style or arrangement.

How it is used

Musicians do, play or record a cover; a cover band plays mostly other artists' songs. 'Cover' is also a verb: 'They covered a 1970s soul song'. Releasing a recorded cover usually requires a mechanical licence for the song.
