In mathematics, intercept means: A point where a graph crosses one of the axes; the y-intercept of y = 2x + 3 is 3, because the line crosses the y-axis at (0, 3).
In Turkish: eksenleri kestiği nokta, kesişim noktası
How it is used
Usually used as 'x-intercept' and 'y-intercept'. To find the y-intercept, set x = 0; to find the x-intercepts, set y = 0. The form y = mx + b is called the slope-intercept form.
Example sentences
Set x equal to zero to find the y-intercept.
The graph has two x-intercepts, at −1 and 4.

Related terms
axisOne of the reference lines on a graph, usually the horizontal x-axis and the vertical y-axis, used to locate points by their coordinates.
slopeA number that measures how steep a line is: the change in y divided by the change in x between any two points on the line.
linearRelated to a straight line; a linear equation or function has no power of the variable higher than 1, so its graph is a straight line.
rootA value of the variable that makes an equation or polynomial equal to zero; the roots of x² − 5x + 6 = 0 are 2 and 3.
graphA drawing that shows the relationship between quantities, especially all the points (x, y) of a function shown on a pair of axes.
