Yield
Meaning in investing & the stock market, with examples
In investing & the stock market, yield means: The income an investment produces, shown as a yearly percentage of its price. For bonds, it is the return an investor gets if the bond is bought at today's price.
In Turkish: getiri, verim, tahvil faizi
How it is used
Used especially for bonds and dividend stocks. Bond yields rise, fall, climb or ease; news reports follow the 10-year yield closely. Because yield moves opposite to price, 'yields rose' means bond prices fell. Also a verb: 'the bond yields 7 percent'.
Example sentences
The 10-year government bond yield climbed to its highest level in a year.
Investors looking for income often compare the yield on bonds and dividend stocks.
