3-D Secure
Meaning in finance & banking, with examples
In finance & banking, 3-D Secure means: A security step for online card payments in which the card issuer asks the cardholder to confirm the purchase, usually with a one-time code or in the banking app.
In Turkish: 3D Secure, 3D güvenli ödeme
How it is used
Used in e-commerce and card fraud prevention, often written 3DS. Shoppers are redirected to a 3-D Secure page, and merchants can make it compulsory. Card schemes brand it as Visa Secure, Mastercard Identity Check and so on. When a payment is authenticated this way, fraud losses often shift from the merchant to the issuer.
