In cloud computing & devops, production means: The live environment that real customers use. A problem in production affects users directly, so changes there are made with the most care.

How it is used

Usually shortened to 'prod' in speech and chat: 'deploy to prod', 'it's broken in prod', 'prod database'. 'In production' also means 'used for real': 'Kubernetes has been in production here for two years.'
