Z-score
Meaning in statistics, with examples
In statistics, z-score means: A value showing how many standard deviations an observation lies above or below the mean, found by subtracting the mean and dividing by the standard deviation.
In Turkish: z puanı, z skoru, standart puan
How it is used
Used to compare scores from different scales, to spot unusual values (|z| > 3 is often flagged) and to look up probabilities in the standard normal table. Converting values to z-scores is called standardising, and a z-score is also known as a standard score.
Example sentences
A z-score of 2 means the student scored two standard deviations above the class mean.
