MRP
Meaning in industrial engineering & manufacturing, with examples
In industrial engineering & manufacturing, MRP means: Short for material requirements planning: a method, usually run in software, that uses the production plan, bill of materials and stock levels to work out what to buy or make and when.
In Turkish: malzeme ihtiyaç planlaması, MİP
How it is used
Planners run MRP, often overnight, and act on the planned orders and messages it creates. MRP II (manufacturing resource planning) later added capacity and finance and grew into ERP. Wrong master data, such as an old BOM or lead time, gives wrong MRP results.
Example sentences
MRP suggests ordering 5,000 brackets, but half of them are already in the warehouse, so the stock data must be wrong.
We run MRP every night, so check the planned orders first thing in the morning.
