In e-commerce, safety stock means: Extra units kept on top of expected demand to avoid running out if sales are higher than forecast or a delivery from a supplier is late.

How it is used

Used by buyers and inventory planners. Teams set, raise or lower safety stock per SKU, usually higher for best-sellers and products with long supplier lead times. Too much safety stock ties up cash.
