PoE

Meaning in networking & telecommunications, with examples

/ˌpiː əʊ ˈiː/abbreviationCommon term

In networking & telecommunications, PoE means: Short for Power over Ethernet: a technology that sends electrical power and data over the same Ethernet cable, so devices such as access points, IP phones and cameras need no separate power supply.

In Turkish: Ethernet üzerinden güç, PoE

How it is used

Spelled out letter by letter. Engineers check the PoE budget of a switch (the total power it can supply), the PoE standard a device needs (802.3af, at or bt) and whether a port is actually delivering power. A switch that runs out of PoE budget will not power new devices.
