Meaning in artificial intelligence & machine learning, with examples

/pəˈræmɪtər/nounCore term

In artificial intelligence & machine learning, parameter means: A number inside a model, such as a weight or a bias, that is learned from data during training. Model size is often given as the number of parameters.

In Turkish: parametre

How it is used

Usually plural and paired with a number: a 7-billion-parameter model, often written 7B. Don't confuse parameters, which the model learns, with hyperparameters, which engineers set before training.

Example sentences

  1. The smaller model has 1.5 billion parameters and fits on a single GPU.

  2. We froze most parameters and trained only the last two layers.
