Regression coefficient
Meaning in statistics, with examples
In statistics, regression coefficient means: A number in a regression model showing how much the outcome is expected to change when a predictor increases by one unit, with the other predictors held constant.
In Turkish: regresyon katsayısı, eğim katsayısı
How it is used
Written b or B for unstandardised and β (beta) for standardised coefficients, and reported with its standard error, confidence interval and p-value. The sign shows the direction: a negative coefficient means the outcome tends to fall as the predictor rises.
Example sentences
With pay measured in thousands of lira, a regression coefficient of 1.2 for experience means each extra year goes with about 1,200 lira more per month.
Standardised regression coefficients let you compare predictors measured on different scales.
