Go/no-go decision

Meaning in software engineering, with examples

nounCommon term

In software engineering, go/no-go decision means: A formal decision, usually made in a meeting shortly before launch, about whether a product or release is ready to go ahead or should be delayed.

In Turkish: çıkış kararı, devam/dur kararı, go/no-go kararı

How it is used

Based on agreed criteria such as open critical bugs, test results, support readiness and sign-offs. People say we're a go, it's a no-go, or hold a go/no-go meeting. A no-go is not a failure if it prevents a bad launch.

Example sentences

  1. We'll make the go/no-go decision on Thursday after the final test run.

  2. The go/no-go decision was a no-go because the payment provider wasn't ready.
