Bloom filter
Meaning in software engineering, with examples
In software engineering, Bloom filter means: A compact structure that tests set membership. It may report an absent item as present, but a standard correctly used filter does not miss inserted items.
In Turkish: Bloom filtresi
How it is used
Used before expensive lookups. A positive result needs confirmation; ordinary Bloom filters do not support arbitrary deletion.
Example sentences
The Bloom filter rejected the missing key without reading the database file.
A negative membership result can avoid a more expensive lookup.
A positive result from the Bloom filter still led to a full index check.
Possible false positives mean that the filter alone cannot confirm presence.
