FTE

Meaning in healthcare management, with examples

/ˌef tiː ˈiː/abbreviationCommon term

In healthcare management, FTE means: Short for full-time equivalent: a unit that adds up working hours, so that one full-time worker counts as 1.0 and two half-time workers also make 1.0.

In Turkish: tam zamanlı eşdeğer, tam zamanlı çalışan karşılığı

How it is used

Used in budgets and workforce plans instead of headcount, which only counts people. Managers ask for extra FTEs, talk about 'a 0.6 FTE post' and compare funded FTEs with the staff actually in post.

Example sentences

  1. The ward is funded for 24 FTE nurses, but we only have 20 in post.

  2. She works three days a week, which is 0.6 FTE.
