Accession number
Meaning in genetics & biotechnology, with examples
In genetics & biotechnology, accession number means: A unique code given to a sequence or dataset when it is stored in a public database such as GenBank, so that others can find exactly the same record.
In Turkish: erişim numarası, kayıt numarası
How it is used
Used in papers, data sharing and clinical reports. Journals ask authors to deposit sequencing data and give the accession numbers in the paper. RefSeq accessions starting with NM_ identify the transcript in variant names. The version comes after a dot, as in NM_000546.6.
Example sentences
The raw reads are available in the SRA, and the accession number is given in the data availability statement.
Always give the transcript accession number when you report a variant.
