Transmission line
Meaning in electrical & electronics engineering, with examples
In electrical & electronics engineering, transmission line means: A high-voltage line, usually overhead on towers, that carries large amounts of power over long distances. In electronics, the term also means a cable or trace whose impedance has to be controlled.
In Turkish: iletim hattı, enerji iletim hattı, enerji nakil hattı
How it is used
Used in power engineering and in RF and high-speed design. Power engineers talk about overhead and underground transmission lines, line voltage (in Turkey mainly 154 kV and 380 kV), towers, conductors and line losses. RF engineers talk about matching a transmission line to its load.
Example sentences
The new 380 kV transmission line will carry power from the plant to the city.
At these frequencies the trace behaves like a transmission line, so its impedance must be controlled.
Common collocations
