Zero trust

Meaning in cybersecurity, with examples

nounCommon term

In cybersecurity, zero trust means: A security model that trusts no user or device by default, even inside the company network, and checks identity and context for every request.

How it is used

Summed up as 'never trust, always verify'. It describes a strategy, not a single product: 'zero trust architecture', 'moving to zero trust'. It replaces the older idea of a trusted internal network behind a strong perimeter.
