Bounding box

Meaning in artificial intelligence & machine learning, with examples

nounCommon term

In artificial intelligence & machine learning, bounding box means: A rectangle drawn around an object in an image and stored as coordinates, showing where the object is. It is the standard output of object detection.

In Turkish: sınırlayıcı kutu, çerçeve kutusu

How it is used

Annotators draw bounding boxes, and models predict them together with a class and a confidence score. Box quality is measured with IoU (intersection over union). In code it is often shortened to bbox.

Example sentences

  2. Each bounding box is saved as x, y, width and height.
