Alternative hypothesis, istatistikte alternatif hipotez, karşıt hipotez anlamına gelir.
Gerçek bir etki, fark ya da ilişki olduğunu öne süren önerme; araştırmacının genellikle beklediği iddiadır ve veri sıfır hipotezine karşı güçlü kanıt sunduğunda desteklenmiş olur.

Nerede ve nasıl kullanılır?
H₁ ya da Hₐ diye yazılır. İki yönlü ('ortalamalar farklıdır') ya da tek yönlü ('yeni ilaç tansiyonu eskisinden daha fazla düşürür') olabilir. Yönü veriye bakmadan önce belirlenmelidir.
