In software engineering, sync means: To make the data on the device and on the server the same by sending local changes and downloading new ones; short for synchronize.

How it is used

Also a noun: background sync, a sync conflict, the last sync time. Offline-first apps must decide what happens when the same item was changed on two devices, which is called conflict resolution.
