Port forwarding
Meaning in software engineering, with examples
In software engineering, port forwarding means: A NAT rule that sends traffic arriving on a public IP address and port to a specific device and port inside a private network, so that an internal service can be reached from outside.
In Turkish: port yönlendirme, port forwarding
How it is used
Common in small offices and home setups: engineers set up, add or remove port forwarding on the router or firewall for cameras, game servers or remote access. Opening ports to the internet carries security risks, so many companies prefer a VPN.
