Deep link

Meaning in software engineering, with examples

nounCore term

In software engineering, deep link means: A link that opens a specific screen inside an app, such as a product page or an order, instead of just starting the app on its home screen.

In Turkish: derin bağlantı, deep link

How it is used

Used with push notifications, emails, ads and QR codes. iOS Universal Links and Android App Links use normal web addresses; older custom URL schemes such as myapp:// are also common. A deferred deep link still works when the user has to install the app first.

Example sentences

  1. The deep link in the email opens the app but lands on the home screen instead of the campaign.

  2. Every push notification should include a deep link to the right screen.
