Continuous delivery

Meaning in software engineering, with examples

nounCommon term

In software engineering, continuous delivery means: The practice of keeping code always ready to release, so that any tested version can go to production at the push of a button.

In Turkish: sürekli teslim, sürekli teslimat, CD

How it is used

Shortened to CD, together with CI in 'CI/CD'. In continuous delivery a person still approves the final production step; in continuous deployment that step is automatic too.

Example sentences

  1. With continuous delivery, releasing is a business decision, not a technical project.

  2. We practise continuous delivery, but a product manager approves each production release.
